Build a city in the living script of a sleeping alien signal organism, where every new connection can nourish the settlement or scar its ground.

Premise Approved

Serravane was founded by salvagers who learned that the black filaments surfacing through their basin carry slow, patterned impulses; no one agrees whether the buried source is a creature, a machine, or both. Its residents prize careful grafts, visible repairs, and listening places, while a newer guild urges deeper harvesting to wake the source and learn what it is saying. The city feels reverent and faintly dangerous rather than grim: inhabited, curious, and always under revision.

Environment Approved

A broad bowl of ivory mineral terraces surrounds a shallow, mirror-dark brine pan, with buildable shelves interrupted by exposed filament beds and narrow fissures. Needle reeds and translucent bladder growths gather where brine seeps upward; low rose dust, silver mist, and occasional pulses of cold light reveal the buried network. A dwelling is a small raised shell on one terrace, while the largest exposed filaments arc across several plots like roots or ribs.

Architecture Approved

Ordinary districts use stacked chalk-ceramic shells on dark basalt feet, with ribbed kiln-clay roofs and fine black filament ties that brace doorways and bridge close-set plots; their uneven curls come from growth and later splices. Work yards expose bolted bone-glass vats, ceramic clamps, and replaceable copper contacts, while civic structures use paired, sweeping basalt spars around pale membrane halls to hold long conductive spans without harvesting them. Scarce polished bone-glass signals public investment; a carefully repaired filament seam signals stewardship, and a severed or plated-over seam signals extraction.

Gameplay Approved

Build homes, filament nurseries, ceramic kilns, brine processors, graft workshops, and listening places in a short production loop: walkers carry brine, ceramic, living fiber, and finished grafts between yards, while commute and exposed resource beds shape efficient districts. Harvesting filament beds yields fiber but depletes and scars tiles; nurseries and terrain restoration reopen growth, and connected signal lines meet homes' utility desires without powering production. Homes also value nearby listening places and stocked brine provisions, generating goodwill for expansion toward a costly citywide resonator that completes the settlement's first deliberate message.

The tattoo's black mark is an architectural system, not merely a pattern painted on pale walls: thick roots collide in a dense junction, cross and split into long uneven sweeps, then taper suddenly to needle points. Buildings vary the balance deliberately, from pale ceramic and glass volumes held by a few decisive black spars to nearly black civic knots with small pale membrane cells; secondary hairlines multiply near crossings in either case. The gestures are tense, technical and locally asymmetric, with no petal roofs, leafy ornament, elven arches, angel wings, gothic tracery, cable bundles or generic circuit boards. 1. **The Listening Cleft — civic tradition.** Two heavy black basalt roots collide above a narrow open entry, then rake outward in unequal crossing arcs with split needle terminals; short dark cross braces hold a few pale membrane cells between the roots without filling the vertical void. 2. **Spliced Door — terrace dwelling tradition.** A door is cut through a thick load-bearing black junction whose four tapered spars claw across the surrounding shell and turn sharply up the roof, while pale ceramic splice collars and finer secondary lines make the repaired roots legible. 3. **Reed-Fan Eave — terrace dwelling tradition.** A black roof spine splits into three offset, sharply tapering structural blades that overlap and cross rather than spreading as soft petals; small angular clay weather plates hang between the blades and leave most of the dark skeleton exposed. 4. **Clamp-Tree Junction — working-yard tradition.** Several dense black basalt and conductive arms meet in an irregular knot of replaceable copper contacts, then launch long hooked ribs with smaller branching needles into open air; every sweep visibly returns to a post, brace or clamp. 5. **Breathing Shutter — terrace dwelling tradition.** A small bone-glass opening is gripped by two asymmetrical black skeletal leaves on pinned hinges, with thick roots passing around the aperture and fraying into many thin terminal cuts instead of forming a decorative oval frame. 6. **Graft Vat Crown — working-yard tradition.** An anchored near-black pressure ring crushes visually around a pale glass vat and throws a chaotic crown of layered tapering arms above it, their black crossings dense at the roots and nearly invisible at teal-tipped ends. 7. **Witness Seam — repair tradition.** A former fracture becomes an aggressive black structural stitch: broad dark plates converge at a compact knot, then thin into long divergent suture lines and abrupt thorn points across otherwise bare chalk ceramic. 8. **Paired Span — civic tradition.** Four founded black spars rise in two unequal pairs and interlock through harsh diagonal crossings, supporting sparse translucent fins while long conductive sweeps shoot beyond the load-bearing center and terminate in needle points. 9. **Scored Boundary — extraction-era tradition.** A saw-cut black retaining rib ends in blunt severed faces beside a pale wall, but new dark branches force their way through one unplated gap, crossing and tapering into sharp divergent strokes that expose the conflict between extraction and repair.

Across all six views, black growth should resemble the supplied cyber-sigilism references: extremely fine, tapered pen strokes with long asymmetric sweeps, hooked terminals and open negative space. Even exposed strands remain slender; no thick cables, hoses, braided ropes or heavy roots. 1. **Inscribed Terrace Lip.** A waist-high step of powdery ivory mineral ends in a thin, eroded overhang; ink-black hairline filaments trace long hooked arcs across its face, branching around chips and leaving large areas of pale stone bare. 2. **Mirror-Brine Margin.** A shallow, nearly black brine pool spans several walking paces, its edge fretted into pale mineral lace; beneath the still surface, fine branching lines appear to continue the exposed ground filaments, broken only by one faint cold-teal pulse. 3. **Open Nerve Bed.** Across a person-sized patch of rose-dusted ground, black filaments spread as sparse, extremely slender penlike strokes in long asymmetric loops with thornlike terminals; a few fine arcs rise only ankle-high before returning to the mineral, never joining into a bundle. 4. **Needle Reed and Bladder Growth.** Clusters of dark needle reeds rise to a person's shoulder beside translucent, hand-sized bladders tinted bone-gray and pale teal; the plants' hair-fine black roots curl visibly over chalk crust toward a damp fissure. 5. **Signal Fissure.** A narrow crack a person can step across cuts the ivory terrace, and delicate black branching growth climbs both walls in almost mirrored curves; deep within the slit, a soft icy glow travels slowly through silver vapor. 6. **Scar Turning to Growth.** A saw-straight extraction mark crosses a low chalk shelf at shin height, with blunt black ends trapped under oxidized mineral plating; one broken plate has lifted, allowing a new tendril to unfurl in thin calligraphic loops through the rose dust.

A brine-black panel carries the city's sharp filament language without making the controls hard to read. Ivory type and pale signal marks feel like observations surfaced from the basin; rose warning text marks damage and extraction. Compact, angular Unbounded headings provide the alien civic voice, while Recursive keeps instructions and resource counts readable. Square seams, fine borders and offset shadows suggest bolted ceramic instruments rather than ornamental fantasy frames.

Shared placeholder icons · Use recognisable resource silhouettes cut from dense black shapes by one or two thin, branching signal lines. Let the line fork, hook and terminate sharply like the city filaments; avoid soft leaves or elvish scrollwork. Preserve distinct profiles and accessible labels for brine, ceramic, fiber, grafts, homes and listening.

The Signal Below the Brine

68 BPM · whole-tone

An uneven five-note whole-tone signal crosses from distant glass and sub-bass into close, dry contacts and restrained civic rhythm.

Nature · Open brine pan

Long gaps between glass tones and a low haze leave the buried five-note signal only partly exposed; occasional light contacts suggest mineral edges, not literal water sound.

City · Graft and reply

A dry metal beat and round bass answer the same broken motif at a precise work rhythm; organ-like sustained notes are rare and leave room for the black filament's silence.

Inhabitants

Filament Tender

A resident who carries brine and checks living signal grafts between homes, nurseries and listening places.
