Fractal Citadel occupies an impossibly level obsidian plateau beneath a sky that unfolds into higher-order geometric patterns, erasing any readable horizon. Its inhabitants think in recursion: a room, a household and a district are related operations at different scales. Architecture grows from inherited algorithms, with two or three generations of the same form visible in each structure. Deep openings reveal smaller openings; branching crowns repeat the proportions of their trunks. The city is recognized as much by the shape of its missing matter as by its sharp crystalline silhouettes. The oldest inhabited fabric consists of low, thick cubic masses perforated by Menger-like sequences of square courts and passages. Their largest voids serve as shared gathering rooms open to the sky; smaller recesses shelter domestic thresholds, and the smallest perforations conduct light from interior chambers. Dwellings cluster around these successive hollows, leaving the perfectly flat ground continuous through public passages. Corners retain substantial piers, and occupied floor plates bridge between them. Recursion stops where another cut would destroy a useful room: inhabited geometry has a deliberate terminal scale. Plateau-grown black vitreous stone forms foundations, compression piers and heavy lintels. Ordinary construction uses its matte, interrupted grain; polished obsidian faces are reserved for surfaces that must reflect light into deep courts. Crystalline white ceramic makes replaceable floor trays, stair landings and protective caps, keeping walking edges legible against the dark ground. Deep violet translucent mineral panels close private chambers behind the perforated outer walls. Reclaimed panels retain cloudy seams and mismatched subdivisions; an intelligible repair is respected as a continuation of the original rule. Later working districts favor triangulated frames and Sierpinski screens. Their nested triangular apertures shade violet process chambers and expose luminous collection cavities, while broad solid service plinths absorb vibration. These lighter buildings can span wide loading courts without borrowing the heavy cubic tradition's deep walls. White crystalline struts carry the loads; dark ceramic screens attach in removable triangular cassettes. Market fronts borrow this construction for folding counters and porous canopies, producing a lower, busier streetscape whose repeating bays can be extended by local cooperatives. Branching towers emerge where institutions share energy and accumulated knowledge. Their L-system growth divides stout trunks into fewer, progressively smaller cantilevered arms, each supporting inhabited crystalline prisms. Tall structures require slow-grown, continuous crystal joints; their expense lies in uninterrupted branching and exact alignment across scales. Iridescent gold traces only these difficult junctions and selected cut edges as a thin conductive inlay. Wealth appears in the precision of a void and the continuity of its light, rather than a larger coating of gold. Monumental commissions may exaggerate one recursive family; they need not combine cubes, triangles and branches. Electric cyan light originates inside the structures, escaping through nested cutouts onto black pavements; crystalline white cores mark communal interiors, while violet chambers remain quieter. Rear and side elevations continue the same spatial rule, with denser closures around private rooms. Streets widen into empty geometric courts that let neighboring silhouettes remain distinct. Resonant drones travel through structural cavities, punctuated by crystalline chimes at mathematical intervals; successive chambers return fainter echoes, making recursion audible as well as visible.

# Fractal Citadel — Exterior Motifs Grid order: left to right, top to bottom. 1. **Hollow Square Portal.** In the oldest courtyard tradition, a massive matte black vitreous-stone lintel bridges two solid corner piers around a square entrance; its surrounding masonry contains a second scale of square perforations, whose borders repeat the cut once more. Polished inner reveals catch cyan light from concealed recesses, while a replaceable white ceramic threshold clearly marks the passage across the obsidian ground. 2. **Violet Recursion Shutter.** A domestic square opening is closed by four deep-violet translucent mineral leaves carried on recessed dark ceramic pivots, each leaf subdivided into four smaller square panes. Seen from outside with one leaf tilted open, the shutter exposes a narrow cyan-lit perimeter and cloudy mineral edges held by fine white ceramic glazing clips. 3. **Stepped Hollow Parapet.** At a cubic dwelling's exterior roof corner, black stone parapet blocks step down in three self-similar square notches, with thick unperforated corner returns preserving the mass. Individually fitted crystalline white ceramic caps follow each step and project slightly over the faces, their sharp undersides casting nested dark lines above faint cyan-lit holes. 4. **Sierpinski Screen Cassette.** In the working districts, a large triangular dark ceramic screen is pierced by a central inverted triangle and two successively smaller generations of triangular openings, leaving broad connecting ribs. Three visible white ceramic corner clamps fix the removable cassette to a crystalline white structural frame, with a recessed violet mineral closure glowing cyan through selected perforations. 5. **Forked Market Canopy.** A market-front fragment carries a shallow triangular canopy on a white crystalline upright that forks twice into progressively smaller angular supports. Dark ceramic triangular roof plates leave a repeating band of open triangular gaps along the eave, while a violet mineral counter flap hinges down from the solid black plinth beneath it on two exposed ceramic pins. 6. **Nested Service Foot.** A working building's diagonal white crystalline strut lands on a broad solid black vitreous-stone plinth through three successively smaller triangular bearing collars, their flat mating surfaces kept visibly intact. Replaceable dark ceramic sleeves protect the collars' outer edges, and one recessed cyan light slit outlines the strut's triangular socket without perforating the load-bearing base. 7. **Continuous Branch Joint.** In the institutional tower tradition, a stout faceted crystalline-white trunk divides into two cantilevered arms, each forking once again into smaller prism supports through smooth, uninterrupted grown junctions. Hairline iridescent gold inlays follow the three branching junctions, and narrow violet infill wedges between the arms leave crisp cyan-lit negative spaces visible from the exterior. 8. **Prismatic Chime Edge.** An institutional terrace's black ceramic fascia folds into three diminishing angular steps beneath a white crystalline floor edge, with slender hollow white crystal chimes suspended from recessed gold-inlaid attachment slots at each scale. Their square open ends repeat the terrace profile in miniature, catching cyan light from the adjoining exterior apertures while leaving the main walking edge solid. 9. **Inherited Patch Panel.** In an altered courtyard façade, one damaged violet mineral closure has been replaced with a visible mosaic of salvaged square panes: a large cloudy pane beside four smaller panes, one of those subdivided again. White ceramic splines join the unequal fragments inside the original matte black stone surround; an older cyan-lit square recess remains exposed above the patch, preserving the façade's larger recursive rhythm.

Obsidian-violet panels act like the city’s shadowed courts, with crystalline white text and cyan actions lit from within. Square double panel borders repeat the nested portal motif while a four-pixel spacing rhythm keeps the hierarchy predictable. Unbounded headings echo broad geometric lintels; Recursive uses restrained proportional forms for reading and monospaced forms for resource accounting. Violet marks selection, gold marks focus and warnings, and feedback retains labels and icons so meaning never depends on color alone. Ornament is concentrated at panel boundaries rather than behind content.

Shared placeholder icons · Sharp square and triangular silhouettes with one nested negative-space cut, white strokes and sparing cyan centers; branching marks indicate networks, concentric squares indicate storage, and triangular apertures indicate collection. Use simple recognizable silhouettes at small sizes, preserve accessible labels, and never rely on color alone.
