People's Water Works

Melts hauled ice into water for homes and production.

Two large cylindrical tanks in glacial ice blue (#A9CFD9), each on a squat stepped basalt (#34383C) plinth and capped with a shallow pressure-aluminum (#B5BAB7) dome, flank a low hall under a shallow signal enamel red (#C53F35) barrel roof that runs front to back. Each tank stands centred against the middle of the hall's side, so in LEFT and RIGHT the near tank covers the middle of the hall, with red roof showing in front of it and behind it.

The hall's flat front wall, between the tanks, carries one bold relief: a colossal forearm and gloved fist in aluminum, raised against the dark basalt and gripping a big block of glacial blue ice, cut in a few broad planes with a strong outline. It stays within the wall; nothing rises above the roof.

One broad aluminum band rings each tank. A single thick blue pipe loops from each tank into the hall, and one large red valve wheel sits on the side of one tank. Beneath the relief, a pair of red doors in a deep aluminum frame is flanked by two heavy basalt buttresses.

The two oversized tank drums make civic infrastructure its unmistakable form.

Scale: longest ground side about 2.4 city tiles, with the main entrance on the front face.
